Tyrone “Man Man” Felder was sentenced to life in prison plus 34 years for his role in two armed robberies in Yonkers and for killing cab drivers Maodo Kane and Aboubacar Bah in the Bronx in 2014. He had been found guilty by a jury in September last year following a trial in district court.
When announcing the sentence, U.S. District Judge Vincent Briccetti said he was “astonished by the audacity and brutality” of Felder’s crimes.
Felder was found guilty of shooting and killing Kane on Aug. 5, 2014, near Hunter Avenue in the Bronx so he could steal his cab. He and three others forced him to the isolated street, one of the men pulled Kane from the vehicle and Felder shot him in the back of the head, killing him. They then used the stolen car to participate in two armed robberies of businesses in Yonkers.
A week later, on Aug. 12, the same crew carjacked Bah, again in an effort to steal his car to use in robberies. Bah resisted and Felder shot him in the head inside the vehicle on Bryant Avenue in the Bronx. U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said that Bah’s cab careened down the street, crashing into parked cars and coming to a stop.
Berman said that Felder and his cohorts then pulled Bah’s body from the car and drove off in the vehicle with the intent to commit further robberies. Believing that law enforcement officials were onto them, the carjackers abandoned the cab and robbery plans.
The FBI, NYPD and Yonkers Police Department launched an investigation, arresting Felder and the other carjackers days after the second murder.
“Tyrone Felder cruelly killed two innocent men who were simply trying to earn an honest living,” Berman said. “The swift action of the FBI, the NYPD, and the Yonkers Police Department stopped him before he could kill again. Now Felder will spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
Geoffrey Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York noted that Felder’s co-defendants, Kareem “Jamal Walker” Martin, Takiem “Mulla” Ewing, Tommy “Tommy Guns” Smalls have all previously pleaded guilty for their roles in the carjacking. They are awaiting sentencing.
